Stamford Attorney to Receive the 1st Annual Arts Ovation Award at The Palace Gala Benefit Concert
The Stamford Center for the Arts will honor Stamford attorney and former SCA Board of Directors member Michael J. Cacace of Cacace, Tusch & Santagata at the April 29th benefit concert featuring The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Mr. Cacace is being honored for his outstanding contributions to SCA and to the community of Stamford at large.
Mr. Cacace served on the Board of Directors for SCA from 1985 to 2008 and also served as Board Vice President and President during his tenure. During his time on the board, he spent countless hours guiding SCA through the constantly changing landscape of operating a performing arts center. His dedication to the educational programming at SCA was always a top priority.
“Mike has always shown a strong commitment to the community of Stamford as is evident through his numerous honors over the years,” said Michael Widland, SCA Board of Directors President. “He has been devoted to SCA for over 20 years through his service on the board and through his many contributions to the institution. Honoring him with the first Arts Ovation Award is fitting and further solidifies his place as one of the great leaders in the community.”
In addition to serving on SCA’s Board of Directors, Mr. Cacace has been active in a variety of community affairs for many years. He has served as president of the United Way of Stamford; president of the United Way of Connecticut; chairman of the Stamford Commission on Aging; co-chairman of the Stamford 13th Charter Revision Commission; chairman of the Stamford Redistricting Commissions in both 1991 and 2001 and president of the Italian Center of Stamford and the Volunteer Center of Southwestern Connecticut.
Mr. Cacace was named Community Leader of the Year by the Advocate in 1986. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Fred Robinson, Jewish War Veterans Post in 1995 and received the President’s Award from the Stamford United Way in 1995 and the Humanitarian Award from the Southwestern Connecticut Association of Life Underwriters in 1988. He also received the Good Scout Award from the Connecticut Yankee Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 2001 and was honored by the Council of Italian American Organizations in 2007.
The April 29th concert featuring The Dave Brubeck Quartet will benefit the SCA Summer 2010 Arts Infusion Education Program which will be presented at The Palace Theatre in Stamford in July and August. Jim West, Emmy award winning puppeteer and artist, will perform and conduct hands on workshops at The Palace and other Stamford sites. SCA will also present the Music Institute for Talented Young Artists conducted by The Lumina String Quartet. In August, the music institute will include a public performance on The Palace stage by the participants and will award a $2,000 scholarship to one student to pursue his/her musical talent. A scholarship will be awarded in Dave Brubeck’s name during the 2010-2011 season through an adjudication process for area youth pursuing a jazz career. While SCA is planning to expand the programming, additional artists and programs will be announced as they are added.
All performances are held at the Stamford Center for the Arts’ Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06901.
