Visiting Nurse and Hospice Names Mark Santagata as Board Chair
STAMFORD ‹ Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Southwestern CT is proud to announce the appointment of Mark P. Santagata as chairman of the board of directors. He replaces the nine-year term of Beverly J. Hunt who guided two separate agencies through a merger (Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care), supported the agency as it became independent from the Stamford Hospital and oversaw the incorporation of the Greenwich Hospital Home Care division. Santagata began working with Hospice Care in 1987 and previously served as chairman of the board from 1995 to 1998, championing the building of a hospice residence in Stamford. In 1989, he advised senior staff through the construction of a 12-bed facility on the grounds of the Stamford Hospital. The Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence continues to serve the community providing end-of-life care with extraordinary compassion under the direction of VNHC.
His initial focus will be to provide direction to VNHC senior management to prosper while facing: a national nursing shortage, maintaining competitive staff salaries in Fairfield County and a challenging philanthropic economy. Santagata is a partner with the law firm of Cacace, Tusch & Santagata, and his expertise in specific legal issues is a gain to his work with VNCH. Specifically, Santagata has extensive experience with the legalities of construction, real estate, probate, employment and collection matters. He is exceptionally active in Stamford area nonprofits including being involved with over 11 local charities including VNHC and Kids in Crisis.
